How Many Will I Need?

How Many Will I Need?

This will depend greatly on how long your cycle is and if you are going to use cloth pads full time or part time. Below is a general guide line and you can work this out across your cycle to find the ideal amount you might need for your stash of pads.

Cloth pads are more absorbent than disposable pads so you can get longer out of wearing them before you need to change.

This depends greatly on your flow, how often you change them, your laundry routine and length of your cycle.

Liners – for back up to a menstrual cup, for protection and very light flow if you think your period might be coming, or when it is ending, for everyday freshness and protection. With little to no flow, these can be worn all day. Two or three a day.

Light – These will last 4 – 6 hours, so you might need two or three per day, on your lighter days.

Medium Flow – These will also need changing approx. 4-6 hours, so some days you will need two or three.

Heavy – designed to protect you on your heavier days. Depending on your flow, these will need to be changed every 2 – 6 hours. They are also useful for nights.

Overnight/Postpartum – for very heavy flow, or added length protection for back or front sleeping, Overnight pads will last the whole night. Depending on your flow, you might need two or three of these.

It may take a couple of months to work out if you have the right selection for your flow. We recommend 10-14 pads as a start, consisting of two or three liners/light, two or three heavy or overnight, and six to eight medium flow. This will give you a good starting point to work out if this will work for you.

If you prefer not to wash every day, you will need more pads – for a five day bleeding week, consider two liners and four light pads for your lighter days, six heavy or overnight pads for each night of your bleeding cycle and your heaviest days, and six medium pads for the remainder – 18 pads.
